Wolfgang Puck was one of the first “celebrity chef” names I learned, and a good one to know in Vegas. Before a lot of Vegas restaurants were offering vegetarian options and vegan menus, Wolfgang offered delicious vegetarian option for lunch or dinner in Las Vegas. There were always choices on his menus (not just a salad, either) and the servers were well-trained and knowledgeable. Luckily, nothing has changed over the years (except for the food to get even better, if that’s possible) and Spago at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is no exception.
I remember one time I inadvertently ordered a soup made with chicken stock. The server recognized I was a vegetarian by my entrée choice and suggested a different soup. That he knew all the ingredients in every dish, and was clearly thinking about my order instead of memorizing what to type in the computer, was impressive. Beyond being very accommodating for vegetarians, the service overall is great. If you like to people watch, sit outside in the cafe area (they have a slightly more low-key menu but you can also order from the regular menu). For a more upscale feel, sit inside.
I almost always get the fresh pappardelle pasta with mushrooms and peas. And I am not kidding when I tell you this is literally the only time I voluntarily eat mushrooms. I hate them, but this dish has great flavor. The menu does encourage diners to inquire about other vegetarian options so don’t hesitate to ask; if the chefs at Spago are half as nice as the servers you’ll have a delicious meal in no time. Even better? Lots of shopping right around the corner!
