Fleur by Hubert Keller at Mandalay Bay

I love Mandalay Bay, but sometimes feel we overlook it as it’s a bit far down the end of The Strip. However, they’ve got some really great restaurants, including Fleur by Hubert Keller, where I enjoyed a delicious vegetarian dinner this past weekend.

We chose this spot based on the fact that Fleur has a large vegetarian section in plain view¬†on the regular menu. I would call it an American tapas-style restaurant, although they seem to categorize it as French. (The vegetarian section had a distinctly Mediterranean feel.) Identity issues aside, they have a nice wine selection, but I didn’t really know what to expect. The restaurant itself is fairly unassuming, and they serve both lunch and dinner, with vegetarian options on either menu.

I had plenty of options to order and even had to narrow down my choices, a refreshing problem for a vegetarian in Vegas to have! I decided to start with the manchego salad and it was literally one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Delicious dressing but not overpowering, with plenty of cheese, peppers, almonds and raisins topping the lettuce. I hate when there aren’t enough toppings and this salad did not scrimp!

After that I had the vegetarian risotto, also yummy, the creamy polenta and the winter vegetables with truffle foam. The vegetables were not the traditional kind, which was fun, and I love that the menu is seasonal so we can go back many times. I managed to save room for dessert and was very glad I did; the coconut almond cakes with gingerbread ice cream tasted like Christmas, in the best way possible.

I can’t say enough about their vegetarian selections, as well as the service. Our waitress to great care to check with the chef about my vegetarian options and my husband’s dairy-free/vegan choices. She even took the time to point out that there was a dessert he might enjoy, that was naturally diary-free and not just sorbet. Big points for that one.

I wasn’t sure what to expect here and was pleasantly surprised by not only the variety of vegetarian dining options, but also the quality. The small plates are great and there is plenty for everyone to enjoy at Fleur in Mandalay Bay. If you go for lunch, be sure to let me know how it is!
