Maybe it’s just me, but I always seem to get lost in the New York New York casino. (Not unlike it’s namesake, NYC.) But this is Las Vegas, so you know you’re never far from food…or liquor and slot machines, but that’s another story. Back to the food: since I’m perpetually lost inside the casino, I always end up hungry and finding these hidden restaurants quite by accident. Gonzalez Y Gonzalez, tucked inside a replica city block just off the casino floor, was no different.
It’s no secret that I love Mexican food. And in most cases, it’s a safe bet for a vegetarian: they use a lot of vegetables, so even if there isn’t a vegetarian option on the menu, you can usually make an easy substitute. And going vegan is often as simple as saying no cheese, no sour cream. Lucky for me (and you) Gonzalez Y Gonzalez has several vegetarian items on the menu, and quite a few more where you could just omit the meat. I went for the veggie fajitas and was not disappointed, although the cheese enchiladas and stuffed chiles were also tempting.
Be sure to try the guacamole. It’s made tableside, so you can customize spiciness and add-ins like onions, tomatoes and cheese, so it’s easily made to taste and vegan, if you wish. We sat “outside,” which is of course inside but made to look like a patio on a New York city street…which just happens to be in miniature and inside a Las Vegas casino. It’s really fun to walk around here, and Gonzalez Y Gonzalez is worth seeking out if you’re looking for some vegetarian food that won’t let you down.
